Good question! You can do so much with your Arkiva account, the question should be "What ISN'T Arkiva?" It isn't simply a place to backup your digital files; it isn't just a media sharing website; and Arkiva certainly is not your average VHS-to-DVD transfer company.
Arkiva is the only software and service provider to integrate physical media conversion, disaster recovery software, and the functions of a media hosting and sharing website into one secure platform.
The Arkiva.com web portal is a multi-functional website where users can store, access, edit, and share important information, such as photos, videos, music, documents, home inventory, and medical records.
Additionally, Arkiva offers a digital conversion service that transfers memorabilia and assets of sentimental value such as videotapes, photo prints, slides, film reels, documents, record albums, and cassettes to digital formats (DVD, CD), and uploads the newly-digitized media to each customer's personal and secure Arkiva.com account.

Q. How much does Arkiva cost?
A. Your account is absolutely FREE. We provide each user with 2 GB of storage to get their archiving started.
Q. Wait a minute, hold on…what's a GB?
A.Oh sorry, I guess I got a little ahead of myself. A GB, or "Gigabyte," is a term used to describe an amount of digital space. To make things clearer, think of it this way: 2 GB is equivalent to about 1,000 digital photos, or 400 MP3 files.
Q. Can I get more storage space, and will there be a fee?
A.You most certainly can purchase more storage space for a low, annual fee.

Q. How do I work with my files and folders?
A.You can upload and edit all your PC files (i.e. Word, Excel, PDF) by choosing the documents icon and following some simple steps.
Q. How can I share files and folders? Am I limited to Arkiva Users only?
A.You can share media with ANYONE as long as they have an email address. Simply click the "Share" button next to the photo, document, video, etc that you wish to share. Provide the recipient's email address, and a link with the media will be instantly sent to them.
Q. How many images can I have on my account?
A.It's up to you! A free account with 2 GB holds approximately 1,000 images, depending on the quality of the photos. However, additional space can be purchased at any time, allowing you to store up to 50 GB of data on your personal account.
Q. Am I limited to picture size?
A.You are not limited in the size of an image but in total storage you are limited to 2 GB unless you choose to purchase additional storage space. We do however provide you with the option of uploading your files in their current state or compressing them to save space.
Q. Will I be able to host music and video files on my account?
A.You most certainly will be able to host music and video files in your account.
Q. What do I do if I want to cancel my account?

Q. How do you safeguard and secure my data to prevent accidental loss or unauthorized access?
A.We are dedicated to protecting the privacy of your personally identifiable information. Arkiva.com stores all information under physical, electronic, and procedural controls that comply with, or exceed, governmental standards. Our employees do NOT have access to your secure website information at any time or for any reason.
Q. How do you secure my personal identifiable information and/or my password?
A.No one has access to any individual customer information. Stored data is encrypted. For example, if you lose your password it must be reset. Arkiva keeps limited information strictly to identify you as an Arkiva.com/Arkiva customer: name, phone number, email address. Automatic billing is sent directly from your account to the credit card company for processing.
Q. Where is my data stored?
A.Multiple, secure geographically-stable locations.
Q. Are my medical records secure?
A.Your medical records and ALL the contents of your Arkiva account is 100% secured by our dual-layer security. We use the same security features as major financial institutions.
Q. Will Arkiva ever release any of my medical information or personal documents to a third party?
A.. We will not give, sell, rent, share, or trade any of your personally identifiable information, or the data that you store using our service to any third party, except as outlined in our Terms of Service and in this privacy policy. We reserve the right to disclose such information to a third party only if (a) we have your express written consent, (b) we reasonably believe we are compelled by applicable state and federal laws, or (c) we reasonably believe that an emergency involving immediate danger such as death or serious physical injury to any person, or other irreparable injury, including economic interests of a third party, requires disclosure of the information without delay.

A.. Arkiva can transfer almost any piece of analogue media to digital.

Q. Can you create an editable movie file out of my old media?
A.. Definitely. We can create an editable movie file in either .MPEG or .MOV depending on the type of computer you own.
Q. When you transfer my media to digital, what do I receive?
A.. After we transfer your media, you receive a digital copy, either a DVD or CD depending on the media. You also receive a copy of all media in your free Arkiva account where you can access, edit, and share with anyone. Plus, we keep a duplicate copy stored in our secure servers for archiving purposes.
Q. Why do you keep a duplicate copy for archiving purposes?
A.. We keep a backup copy on file in for easy retrieval in the event of loss or destruction, or in case you would like another copy for yourself or a friend or family member.
Q. My tapes are in European format (PAL). Can you convert these to DVD and upload them online?
A.. No problem. Just add $10 for each PAL tape and we'll have them on DVD and your computer in no time.
Q. Can you combine multiple tapes onto one DVD?
A.. Of course we can! We can fit up to two hours of footage on one DVD. Upon request, we will fit as many tapes onto as few DVDs as possible. The priceremains the same whether tapes are transferred on separate DVDs or combined onto fewer DVDs.
Q. What can I do with Arkiva Groups?
A.. Group members can view, download, edit, and share photos, videos, documents, music, and PC files. Social tools such as a calendar of events, discussion board, and notes, keep members connected and organized.
Q. How do I create a group?
A.. Got a great idea for a group? Head over to Arkiva Groups and get started. Choose whether your group will be public, private, or invisible. Select the category that best describes your group. Upload a picture for your group's main page. Invite as many people via email as you wish!
Q. Is there a storage limit on Arkiva Groups?
A.. You can create a FREE Arkiva Group instantly, and fill it with up to 2 GB of media. Once this threshold has been met, group members have the option of upgrading the group account on an annual basis. Pricing is the same as storage space for private accounts.

Q. What are the differences between public, private, and invisible groups?
A.. Public groups are open to the public; any Arkiva member can instantly join.
Private groups are invitation-only. They appear on the list of groups, but can only be accessed by accepting an invitation to join or requesting to join and receiving approval by the group creator.
Invisible groups are the most private option. These groups do not appear on the list of groups, and are only visible to members. The only way to access the group is to accept an invitation from the group owner.
Q. What's unique about Arkiva Groups?
A.. Members have the ability to exchange all forms of media freely, or with limited permissions set by the group creator. Group creators can assign different members specific abilities within the group to assure the utmost privacy of content.
